Wings - Ship Rock, NM
The Navajo name for the peak, Tsé Bitʼaʼí, "rock with wings" or "winged rock", refers to the legend of the great bird that brought the Navajo from the north to their present lands.
I have visited Ship Rock half a dozen times and every time, it is the most spiritual of experiences. While the land may seem barren, there is a life force and resonance stronger than any I can recall. The landscape has served well as a filming location for Hollywood, but at it’s core it is the heart of the great Diné (Navajo) people.
